So you want a recommendation, eh?

Help me help you.

1

A good fit?

Before I write a recommendation for you, first consider what I might say about you. Did you spend a lot of time focused and contributing to the academic environment? or were you constantly texting and distracted in class? Did you chronically hand in late work? or did you go above and beyond expectations?

You should know that I’m honest in my recommendations, so you should be honest with yourself about  whether I am the best teacher to speak on your behalf.

2

Process

After you decide that you do indeed want a recommendation from me, please ask me politely face-to-face.  This is a very human request and I expect a human interaction.

I'll ask you to fill out this form as completely as possible- it helps me to focus on your strengths and the qualities that make you an individual and a learner.

After that go ahead and officially request me as a "recommender"  through our school’s proper Guidance department channels (we've been using Naviance as a bridge to the Common App and recommendation requests).

3

Mutual Respect

Be respectful in allowing me ample time to complete this task. Several weeks lead time is customary and respectful.  I am very busy and this is a courtesy that you are asking me to perform for you. Your procrastination does not become my emergency.

Life Skill 101:

Remember to thank me after
you receive your recommendation.

Most people don’t.
